As the 80 & 90 kph speed restricions were on in France last year for the heavier outfits, both Pete and myself made our own 80 & 90 stickers on our computers then laminated them, but we never put them as on, no one else was using them. We did however display the marker boards whilst in Spain, but there again we never saw any other outfits with them on either!

As my total train weight is 4,760kg, which is well over the 3,500kg mark, I for one will be displaying the relevant stickers for France and the marker boards for Spain.

I wondered what everyone else was going to do.

We will probably keep the speed stickers in the glovebox again this year, but as we have the spanish marker boards we will use them.  Just have to meet you somewhere to get some more gungy tape off you, not going to use as much as last year ??? ??? ???

Only driving through France for a very short distance as we head straight for Belgium. So I don't think I will bother.
I hope that statement does not come back and bite me. LOL

We have just returned from two weeks holiday in Normandy and Brittany and not once did I see a caravan with the speed stickers on the back. We had got them with us though just incase, but they never came out of the drawer.

We had to make a toilet stop in the layby imediately after coming through the Peage at the end of an Autoroute and a couple of police motor- cyclists had a walk round our outfit and when they passed the car's window they smiled and gave me the Thumbs Up sign, so I presume everything looked in order to them!

Now that it as been announced officially, that only French registered caravans need to display the speed stickers, we can all dispose of them, that is of course, if you have them.

My French is a bit rusty but here goes. confused2

In response to your letter concerning the speed records that must
be affixed to trucks and caravans UK, circulating
France (Article R.413-13 of the French highway code), I can
make the following answers:

The Vienna Convention of 8 November 1968 deals with international traffic.
The principle was that vehicles in international traffic shall conform to the rules in its country of registration.
In practice we see the heavy-weight foreign travel to France with their own speed records.
The heavy-weight French abroad do not change speed records at the border to accommodate the country traversed.
But in any case, it should respect the rule that applies maximum speed on the road where it circulates.

Hope that answers your question and cordially,

The office of legislation and regulation
Delegation to the safety and traffic flow
Ministry of ecology, energy, sustainable development and the sea
